The collective unconscious is the theme of my sculpture. What I want is to continue pursuing it more deeply.People have the same anima without been educated or having experience. In the depth of our unconscious, we share similar thinking and emotion. There is something in common in our heredity, from one generation to another. As a result, I have chosen a traditional material and technique to express my vision in the present day. I try to recreate a period of the world in our mind, which come from the ancient time, instead of making fantasy.Dry lacquer is one of the very special techniques to make Buddha statues in ancient China and Japan. People collect lacquer from trees, and they believe that the sap is just like human blood. They believe it contains special spirit or power if the statues are made by lacquer.I use this technique to make my work, not only to evoke something that is lost in people's mind, but also to find things in common between the ancient and present day.
